GOMBE PDP CRISIS: Monica Kaltho Withdraws Court Case, Backs Pantami for 2027

18th July, 2026

GOMBE— One of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopefuls in Gombe State, Hon. Monica Yahaya Kaltho, has withdrawn from a court case challenging the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election and declared full support for the party’s candidate, Professor Isa Ali Pantami.

Hon. Kaltho was among the aggrieved aspirants who were not cleared for the primary where Professor Pantami emerged as the sole candidate for affirmation.

In a statement on Friday, she said the decision to withdraw followed consultations and an appeal by the PDP leader in Gombe State, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who urged party members to set aside personal interests in the interest of unity.

“I acted after consultations and in respect of the appeal made by our leader, H.E. Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo,” Hon. Kaltho stated. “He is a father and a leader whose counsel I deeply value. The unity of the PDP and the development of Gombe State are more important than personal ambition.”

She pledged to work “tirelessly” for Professor Pantami’s victory in the 2027 Gombe State governorship election and called on all party members to remain committed to delivering quality leadership.

Responding, Professor Pantami commended Hon. Kaltho for what he described as “maturity, patriotism, and commitment to the unity of the PDP.” He assured her that she remains “an important stakeholder” in the party’s plans for 2027.

“As a mark of respect and gratitude,” the statement said, Professor Pantami personally visited Hon. Kaltho at her residence to thank her for her support and what he called “a sacrifice made in the overall interest of the PDP and the people of Gombe State.”

The withdrawal is expected to ease tensions within the Gombe PDP ahead of the 2027 elections, with party leaders now pushing for a united front.
