PRP Accuses Kwankwaso of ‘Snatching’ 69 Party Forms in Kano, Alleges Plot to Disrupt Primaries

Kano, Nigeria – June 21, 2026

The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has accused Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, of allegedly purchasing 69 party nomination forms for various offices in Kano, a move the party says created chaos and uncertainty ahead of its primaries.

The allegation was made on Saturday during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Press Centre in Kano by the PRP State Chairman, Abdulkadir Musa Guza.

‘Somebody had purchased all the forms’

Guza said he traveled to Kaduna as State Chairman to attend the party’s retreat and to obtain nomination forms for PRP aspirants in Kano who had already paid for them. He claimed that on arrival he was informed that all the forms had been bought by one person.

“I was in Kaduna as State Chairman of PRP to participate at the party retreat and also obtained forms for my people who were contesting various offices in Kano and who paid for them but I was told that somebody had purchased all the forms,” Guza told journalists.

According to him, when he pressed the party’s national secretary for details, he was told the buyer was Kwankwaso. The reason given, Guza added, was that the party was “in talks with him for his possible defection to our party.”

PRP alleges ‘mischievous mission’

Guza said that after several days without any indication that Kwankwaso would defect to the PRP, it became clear to the party that the former Kano governor may have been pursuing a “mischievous mission” against it.

“It became apparent that he may have been engaged in a mischievous mission against the party, as one cannot belong to another party while holding another party’s forms,” the PRP chairman said.

He further alleged that the party does not understand Kwankwaso’s intentions, hence the decision to make the matter public.

“We don’t know his missions, that is why we are telling every listening ears the situation,” Guza added.

Context of the allegation

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, is currently the Vice-Presidential candidate of the NDC. The PRP says holding its nomination forms while remaining a member/flagbearer of another party violates party processes and has thrown its Kano primaries into confusion.

As of press time, Kwankwaso and the NDC had not issued an official response to the PRP’s claims.
