Nigeria, India Move to Deepen Agricultural Cooperation

Indore, India — Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening agricultural cooperation with India.

Speaking during a bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in Indore, the minister emphasized Nigeria’s dedication to honouring existing understandings on food production and agribusiness.

The high-level discussions focused on deepening the strategic partnership between both nations, with emphasis on agricultural technology, crop production, and the supply of crops of mutual interest.

Minister Kyari said his ministry will actively follow up on pending Memorandums of Understanding on bilateral agricultural cooperation, which are expected to take effect soon.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to boost food security, improve farm yields, and attract technology transfer to support Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

No timeline was given for the signing of the MoUs, but officials said technical teams from both countries will continue engagements in the coming weeks.
