Nigeria, Ethiopia Agree to Transfer 136 Convicted Nigerians to Serve Jail Terms at Home, See full list of the inmates

 

Abuja, Nigeria— The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, has reached an agreement with the Ethiopian government for the transfer of 136 Nigerians serving jail terms in Ethiopia to continue their sentences in Nigeria.

According to details shared by the ministry, the inmates were convicted for various offences in Ethiopia. Under the agreement, they will be moved back to Nigeria to serve the remainder of their jail terms in Nigerian correctional facilities.

The ministry stated that the transfer agreement is part of ongoing consular efforts to ensure Nigerians imprisoned abroad serve their sentences closer to home and family. 

Officials said the process for repatriation and documentation will follow due process under bilateral agreements between Nigeria and Ethiopia. No date has been announced yet for the transfer.

The ministry did not provide details on the specific offences or sentences of the individuals listed.
