Miyetti Allah Urges Tinubu to Secure Unconditional Release of Bello Bodejo
The leadership and members of Fulani pastoralist communities across Nigeria have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other top government officials to intervene in the continued detention of Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, urging his unconditional release.
In a statement signed by Alhaji Nasiru Liman Jalbu, Northeast Zonal Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Sociocultural Association, the group called on the President, the National Security Adviser, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other relevant authorities to ensure that justice is done in accordance with the law.
The association recalled that Bodejo was first arrested on January 23, 2024, in connection with the establishment of a nomadic vigilante outfit, which it said was fully sponsored by the Nasarawa State Government.
According to the statement, following several months of legal proceedings, Bodejo was released after all charges against him were withdrawn.
The group further stated that he was rearrested on November 9, 2024, by security operatives but was later released after the matter was resolved and the charges were again discontinued.
It added that Bodejo was most recently arrested on May 8, 2026, by the Department of State Services in Jalingo before being transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The association alleged that the arrest came after he declared his intention to contest for the Taraba Central Senatorial District seat under the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.
The Fulani pastoralist group expressed confidence in Nigeria's judicial system and urged the relevant authorities to uphold due process, fairness, and the constitutional rights of every citizen in handling the case.
It also described Bodejo as a prominent voice among Fulani pastoralists across the country, saying he has consistently encouraged peaceful political participation and engagement within Nigeria's democratic process.
The association argued that as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, public confidence in democratic institutions can only be strengthened when all citizens, regardless of their political aspirations or status, are treated fairly and in accordance with the Constitution.
Reiterating its appeal, the group called on President Tinubu and other relevant authorities to review the circumstances surrounding Bodejo's detention and ensure that justice is served in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The association also reaffirmed its commitment to peace, national unity, democratic participation, and support for lawful processes in Nigeria.
