Kidnappers Release Late Maj-Gen Rabe Abubakar’s Wife, Hand Over His Body to Family

Katsina, Nigeria— Abductors of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar have released his wife and handed over the retired general’s body to his family, family sources confirmed on Saturday.

The development comes days after the Katsina State Government announced on 13th June 2025 that the former senior military officer died of diabetes and hypertension complications while in bandits’ captivity.

Body Returned, Wife Freed

According to family sources, the kidnappers released the general’s wife unharmed and surrendered his remains to relatives. Funeral arrangements are expected to take place in Katsina in accordance with Islamic rites.

The release and handover have brought a measure of closure to the family, though grief remains high over the circumstances of the general’s death.

State in Mourning

The Katsina State Government had earlier described the incident as a “dark moment” and a “monumental loss” to the state and the country. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, extended condolences to the family and pledged that the state would work with federal security forces to bring those responsible to justice.

Retired Maj-Gen Rabe Abubakar was abducted by bandits and held in captivity before succumbing to health complications. His death sparked widespread condemnation and renewed calls for stronger action against banditry in the North-West.

Prayers for Other Victims

The incident has deepened sorrow across Katsina and beyond, with prayers continuing for the repose of the late general’s soul and for the safe release of others still held captive by criminal gangs in affected regions.

Community and religious leaders have urged citizens to remain united and support security agencies in efforts to end kidnapping and violence in the area.
