Katsina Government Opens Application for Special Foreign Scholarship Programme to Study Medicine in Russia
The Katsina State Government has announced the commencement of applications for its Special Foreign Scholarship Programme, which will sponsor qualified indigenes of the state to study Medicine, MBBS, at Russian universities.
According to a press release issued by the Katsina State Coordination Committee on the Special Foreign Scholarship Programme, Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has approved the commencement of the selection process for candidates who will benefit from the initiative.
The programme is designed to provide outstanding students from across the state with the opportunity to pursue medical education abroad, thereby strengthening the state’s human capital development in the health sector.
Interested and qualified candidates are required to submit their applications through the designated online portal:
Eligibility Requirements
The government stated that applicants must possess a Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, result from WAEC or NECO with at least eight credits obtained in one sitting. The credits must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and English Language, with candidates expected to have secured at least two distinctions.
Applicants must also:
1. Be between 16 and 23 years old at the time of application.
2. Be indigenes of Katsina State.
3. Have attended public, government-owned, schools.
4. Upload copies of their academic credentials, birth certificate, indigene certificate, and an endorsement letter from their Local Government Chairman.
One Candidate Per Local Government
The scholarship committee disclosed that only one candidate will be selected from each of the 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
Selection will be based on merit, with the best-performing candidate from each local government emerging through a competitive examination process.
Application Deadline
Applications are to be addressed to the Chairman of the Katsina State Special Foreign Scholarship Programme Coordination Committee and submitted through the online portal on or before Friday, June 26, 2026.
The committee further stated that shortlisted candidates will be notified of the date and venue of the examination through their registered phone numbers and email addresses.
The Katsina State Government described the programme as part of its commitment to expanding educational opportunities for talented youths and producing more medical professionals capable of contributing to the state’s healthcare development.
