Islamic Clerics Warn Katsina Preacher Over Alleged Inciting Sermons, Issue 7-Day Ultimatum

Katsina, Nigeria – June 22, 2026

A group of Islamic scholars and legal advocates has issued a formal letter of concern and demand to Katsina-based preacher Mallam Yahya Ibrahim Mausausuka of Dutsi Adam Academy, accusing him of making inflammatory religious statements capable of inciting discord among Muslims and the wider public.

The letter, dated June 18, 2026, was signed by Barrister Muhammad Alameen, Principal Counsel of Fortifiyaz Law Chambers, on behalf of individuals described as followers of the Sunni Islamic tradition committed to public peace, unity, and decorum.

Allegations of provocative sermons

According to the petitioners, the preacher has continued to disseminate controversial sermons and online lectures containing remarks they consider provocative and capable of fueling tension within the Muslim community.

The complainants accused Mallam Mausausuka of using derogatory language against respected Islamic scholars and institutions. They alleged that some of his public lectures contained expressions perceived as insulting to prominent Muslim personalities and capable of generating hostility among followers of different Islamic schools of thought.

The letter further claimed the cleric has repeatedly engaged in verbal attacks against scholars, religious institutions, and individuals with differing theological views. The petitioners said such actions have contributed to division and unnecessary controversy.

They also warned that his style of preaching could encourage public unrest, distort established principles of Islamic scholarship, and undermine efforts aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence among Muslims. The group referenced historical examples of extremist movements to caution against religious rhetoric that could lead to intolerance or sectarian tension.

Demands and 7-day ultimatum

The petitioners demanded that the cleric:

1. Retract statements considered offensive or defamatory.

2. Remove online content containing the alleged inflammatory remarks.

3. Direct administrators of his social media platforms to take down videos, audio recordings, and other materials deemed provocative.

4. Refrain from further comments capable of causing division within the Muslim community.

The letter stated that the group is prepared to seek redress through relevant law enforcement agencies and legal channels if the demands are not met.

They gave Mallam Mausausuka a seven-day ultimatum from the date of receipt of the notice to comply. The notice warned that failure to act within the stipulated period could leave the petitioners with no option but to pursue legal action and other lawful measures.

Call for responsible preaching

Despite the strong language, the petitioners emphasized that their objective is not to suppress legitimate religious discourse but to preserve peace, unity, and responsible preaching in accordance with Islamic teachings and Nigerian law.

“Public religious engagement should promote understanding, respect, and social harmony rather than deepen divisions among believers,” the letter stated.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from Mallam Yahya Ibrahim Mausausuka regarding the allegations and demands.

The allegations remain claims by the petitioners. Mallam Mausausuka has not issued a response or admission as of June 18, 2026.
