Group Petitions INEC, Police, DSS to Investigate Kaduna Gov’s Aide Over ‘Election Result Writing’ Comments

Abuja, Nigeria – 1 June 2026— A civil society group, Concerned Citizens for Electoral Accountability in Kaduna State, has submitted formal petitions to Nigeria’s electoral, security, and judicial authorities, demanding an immediate investigation into allegations of past electoral manipulation in the state.

The petitions, dated 1 June 2026, were independently received and stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and the Department of State Services, DSS.

Controversial Video

According to the documents, the uproar stems from a widely circulated social media video and media reports that emerged on or about 29 May 2026. In the footage, Hon. Abubakar Mamadi, Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor of Kaduna State, is allegedly captured addressing a political gathering in Hausa.

The group translated his statements as follows:

“Myself and him, Yusuf Zailani, and others have written election results in Igabi Local Government, not once, not twice. I am talking about general elections, not primary elections.”

The individual mentioned is reportedly Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Demands for Independent Probe

The non-partisan civic initiative said it does not presume guilt, but stressed that an objective investigation is urgently required to determine the authenticity and legal implications of the statements.

The group argued that such comments from a high-ranking state official threaten public trust ahead of future elections.

“The statement appears capable of raising serious questions regarding the integrity of past electoral processes,” the petition to the Attorney General reads. “It may also undermine public confidence in future elections, including the 2027 general elections, by creating the perception that electoral outcomes can be influenced through means other than the freely expressed will of voters.”

Institutional Acknowledgement

Copies of the correspondence show official receipt:

1. INEC: The Office of the Chairman in Abuja acknowledged receipt on 1 June 2026.

2. Nigeria Police Force: Force Headquarters in Abuja stamped the document received on 1 June 2026.

3. Federal Ministry of Justice: The HAGF Registry marked the document as received on 1 June 2026.

4. DSS: The Department of State Services in Abuja signed off on the document at 16:48 on 1 June 2026.

The group warned that statements normalizing or glorifying electoral malpractice, whether spoken seriously, rhetorically, or in jest, risk fueling voter apathy and eroding confidence in democratic institutions.

At the time of filing this report, neither the Kaduna State Government nor Hon. Abubakar Mamadi had issued an official statement on the circulating video or the petitions.
