FCT Police Arrest 3 Suspected Kidnappers Featured in Viral Video Brandishing AK-47 Rifles
Abuja – 5 June 2026— The FCT Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers who appeared in a viral video brandishing AK-47 rifles, ammunition, walkie-talkies and wearing military camouflage, the command said Thursday.
The suspects were identified as Umar Babangida, 25; Adamu Yeti, 22; and Yahaya Idris, 24. They were arrested during an early-morning raid at their hideout in Runji Village, Zuba, Abuja, following weeks of digital forensic analysis and intelligence gathering.
Investigation Triggered by Viral Video
Police said they launched an investigation immediately after the video surfaced online, showing the men posing with firearms and tactical communication gadgets. Investigators traced the suspects to Runji Village using digital forensics and human intelligence.
During the raid, officers recovered additional photos and videos from the suspects’ mobile phones. The materials reportedly showed the men posing with weapons, military-style clothing and communication devices, further linking them to criminal activities.
Weapons Linked to At-Large Gang Leader
According to the FCT Police Command, preliminary interrogation revealed that the AK-47 rifles were allegedly supplied by a gang leader known as “Esco,” who remains at large. Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and recover the weapons in circulation.
The command noted that the arrests were part of its broader crackdown on armed criminal gangs operating within the FCT and its border communities. Authorities have intensified surveillance and intelligence operations to dismantle networks involved in kidnapping, armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms.
Suspects in Custody
The three suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing further interrogation. They are expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, police said.
The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies. It also warned against the sharing or circulation of violent content that could glorify crime.
The command reiterated its commitment to rid the territory of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.
