Emir of Zazzau Orders Reopening of Some Izala Mosques Closed in Zaria
Zaria, Kaduna State – The Emir of Zazzau has ordered the reopening of some mosques belonging to the Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'ah Wa'iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), popularly known as Izala, which were previously shut down in parts of Zaria following disputes related to religious activities and administration.
According to reports, the decision followed consultations and peace-building efforts involving key stakeholders, as the Zazzau Emirate sought to promote harmony, unity, and peaceful coexistence among Muslims in the area.
The Emir reportedly emphasized the importance of conducting religious activities in accordance with the law and maintaining peace, urging Islamic scholars and their followers to avoid statements or actions capable of creating tension or division within the Muslim community.
Sources indicated that the affected mosques were closed due to disagreements surrounding leadership and the conduct of certain religious affairs. However, after mediation and dialogue facilitated by traditional and community leaders, an agreement was reached that paved the way for the mosques to be reopened.
Religious leaders and community stakeholders have welcomed the Emir's intervention, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening unity and fostering peaceful relations among Muslims in Zaria and its surrounding communities.
They also called on all parties involved to respect the resolutions reached and continue working together to preserve peace, mutual understanding, and community development.
The reopening of the mosques is expected to allow hundreds of worshippers to resume their religious activities in a peaceful environment while efforts continue to address any remaining areas of disagreement through dialogue and reconciliation.
