DSS Closes Case Against Nasir El-Rufai as Federal High Court Adjourns Trial to September
Abuja, June 23, 2026 – Proceedings in the ongoing trial involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, resumed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, with the Department of State Services (DSS) formally closing its case against the defendant.
At the sitting, counsel to the defendant made an application seeking a variation of the bail conditions earlier imposed by the court. However, the presiding judge declined the request, ruling that the existing bail conditions would remain in force.
The closure of the prosecution's case marks a significant stage in the proceedings, paving the way for the defence to challenge the evidence presented by the DSS.
Following arguments from both parties, the court fixed September 22, 2026, for the filing and adoption of a no-case submission by the defence. The defence is expected to argue that the prosecution has failed to establish sufficient evidence to warrant the defendant entering a defence.
A no-case submission is a legal procedure through which a defendant asks the court to dismiss the charges on the grounds that the prosecution has not established a prima facie case.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to September 22 for further proceedings and continuation of the trial.
The case has continued to attract public attention, with political observers and supporters closely monitoring developments as the legal process unfolds.
Further updates are expected when the matter comes up for hearing in September.
