Babachir Lawal Accused of Stoking ADC Crisis in Adamawa Amid Resignation Claims

Adamawa, Nigeria — 1 June 2026— Fresh controversy has emerged within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, after allegations surfaced that former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, played a decisive role in the party’s leadership and candidate selection process crisis Adamawa State.

According to political analysts claims circulating on social media, former Adamawa governorship candidate Aishatu Binani reportedly left the ADC over concerns that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was acting in line with Babachir Lawal’s preferences.

The post further alleged that former Adamawa Governor Jibrilla Bindow was denied a party ticket because Lawal opposed his emergence. The author claimed these actions weakened the ADC’s structure in Adamawa and deepened internal divisions.

The statement also alleged that Lawal has now resigned from the ADC after influencing major decisions within the party. It further accused him of secretly working in the political interest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, though no evidence was provided to support the claim.

As of press time, neither Babachir Lawal, Atiku Abubakar, nor the ADC leadership had responded publicly to the allegations. Independent verification of the claims was unavailable, and no official statement confirming Lawal’s reported resignation had been released.

Political observers say the allegations highlight growing tensions and power struggles within opposition ranks ahead of future elections. However, the claims remain unverified and should be treated as allegations pending official confirmation from those involved.
