Abbo Blasts Babachir Lawal Over ADC Crisis in Adamawa, Accuses Him of Double Standards

Abuja, Nigeria –2nd June 2026— Former senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Ishaku Elisha Abbo, has launched a scathing attack on former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, over the ongoing crisis within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Adamawa State and Lawal’s recent exit from the party.

Abbo’s criticism followed remarks reportedly made by Lawal concerning the party’s primary election process. The former senator accused the ex-SGF of bias and political hypocrisy, alleging that Lawal only began questioning the credibility of the process after his preferred candidate failed to emerge victorious.

According to Abbo, it was surprising that Lawal had previously accepted and benefited from the same electoral process he now describes as flawed. He argued that Lawal’s position changed only after the outcome failed to align with his expectations.

The former lawmaker further alleged that Lawal played a significant role in weakening the ADC structure in Adamawa State, raising questions about his commitment to the party he claims to defend.

“You cannot praise a process when it benefits you and then label it fraudulent when it does not go your way,” Abbo was quoted as saying.

The exchange comes amid growing controversy surrounding the ADC’s primary elections and the departure of some prominent party members. The developments have sparked fresh debates among party stakeholders and supporters, further deepening divisions within the party in Adamawa State.

The ADC has recently faced internal disagreements in several states as political actors position themselves ahead of future electoral contests, with the Adamawa chapter emerging as one of the focal points of the party’s internal disputes.
