Zazzau Emirate Bans Islamic Scholar from Preaching in Kaduna, Citing Criticism of Tinubu Administration

KADUNA, Nigeria— The Zazzau Emirate Council has barred Islamic scholar Sheikh Said Khamis Almisiry from delivering sermons or leading prayers at Masallacin Abu Ubaida Bin Jarrah and Sabon Gari Bye-Pass in Tudun Wada, Kaduna.

In a letter dated April 15, 2026, and signed by Council Secretary Mal. Yusuf Abubakar Hayat, the emirate directed mosque authorities to stop Sheikh Almisiry and his deputy, Malam Aminu Garba, from all preaching activities with immediate effect.

The directive has drawn strong reactions from residents and followers of the cleric, many of whom view it as an attempt to silence a critical voice.

According to Datti Assalafy, who is familiar with the matter, the ban was allegedly imposed due to the scholar’s frequent and sharp criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The development has sparked heated debate online, with some describing the ban as an “embarrassment” and questioning why a respected Islamic scholar should face restrictions for speaking against a democratic government. Critics argue that traditional institutions are expected to protect religious voices rather than advance political interests.
