What happened to El-Rufai in High Court

Court Grants El-Rufai N100m Bail in DSS Case, Orders Passport Surrender

ABUJA— The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the sum of N100 million over allegations of unlawful interception of communications linked to the Office of the National Security Adviser.

El-Rufai pleaded not guilty to the charges filed by the Department of State Services. He was granted bail with one surety in like sum during proceedings on 18 May 2026.

Under the bail terms, the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja. The court also required the surety to provide verifiable documents, including a Certificate of Occupancy, salary records, tax clearance certificate, and bank verification details.

The court further ordered El-Rufai to surrender his international passports and report monthly to DSS headquarters pending the determination of the case.

Legal observers said the conditions reflect standard judicial practice aimed at ensuring accountability and compliance with court processes.

The Federal High Court case is separate from earlier proceedings involving the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in Kaduna.

The matter was adjourned for further hearing.
