Troops Dismantle Illegal Gun Factories in Plateau, Arrest Five Suspects
JOS, Plateau State— Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have dismantled two illegal arms manufacturing factories in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area, arresting five suspects and recovering several fabricated weapons.
According to a statement issued Thursday by Capt. Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the operation was carried out on May 7, 2026, following “intensified human intelligence gathering and strategic surveillance.”
Security operatives apprehended the suspects at the sites while they were allegedly fabricating firearms. Items recovered include nine fabricated AK-47 rifles, one pistol, four empty magazines, seven skeletal AK-47 rifles, ten rifle butts, and 36 empty ammunition shells.
Troops also seized industrial equipment allegedly used in the production process, including drilling machines, welding equipment, and filing machines.
The suspects and recovered exhibits are in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution. Capt. Oteh said the operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation ENDURING PEACE to curb the spread of illegal arms and criminal activity in Plateau State and surrounding areas.
He added that troops have intensified covert operations to identify and dismantle remaining illegal arms networks and to recover weapons already in circulation.
The Joint Task Force urged residents to remain vigilant and to provide credible information to security agencies.
“The public is encouraged to be more vigilant and report suspicious activities within their communities to security agencies for prompt action,” the statement said.
