Takeaway from the Altar: Beyond Prophecy, Adeboye Urges Practical Wisdom in Marriage Choices
LAGOS, Nigeria— The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised men to consider practical qualities when choosing a life partner, warning that overlooking them can create challenges in marriage.
Speaking during a recent sermon, Adeboye cautioned against marrying women who lack basic domestic and hospitality skills, particularly cooking, describing it as a potential source of conflict at home.
“Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook, because if she can’t cook and be hospitable, you’re heading for trouble,” he said.
The cleric also urged individuals not to rely solely on spiritual or prophetic declarations when making marital decisions, stressing the need for personal judgment. “If a prophet says this is your wife, say thank you very much. Keep her,” he added, suggesting that spiritual guidance should be weighed alongside practical realities.
Adeboye further linked his remarks to biblical expectations of marriage, noting that qualities such as intelligence, hospitality, and domestic capability remain important for building a stable home.
His comments have sparked discussions on social and religious expectations in marriage, particularly around gender roles and the balance between spiritual guidance and everyday compatibility.
