PROPHECY VS CRITICAL ANALYSIS
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Friday, Baba Yusuf, Policy Strategist and Group CEO of Global Investment and Trade Company, said the duo could mobilize voters but would fall short of the constitutional requirement for nationwide spread.
“If you look at the spread of Peter Obi, with profound respect to him, and Kwankwaso, they won’t be able to win the presidency,” Yusuf said.
He argued that while the ticket could attract up to 70 million voters who abstained in 2023, those votes would not be distributed across both northern and southern Nigeria to secure the required 25% in at least 24 states. Yusuf said the situation would require negotiations with other political leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“The ‘me me’ attitude will not cut it,” he said. “I expect Peter Obi and Kwankwaso to sit down with an elder statesman like Atiku Abubakar to discuss how power will be shared. It’s a negotiation, but when you come with the attitude of ‘we don’t need you’, it will not yield any positive result.”
Obi and Kwankwaso left the African Democratic Congress for the Nigerian Democratic Congress last Sunday, citing court cases and internal divisions as reasons for their exit.
Primate Ayodele’s Prophecy
Yusuf’s assessment aligns with recent prophecies by Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church.
In a statement on May 3, 2026, Ayodele warned that if Obi leaves the ADC, “he will fail.” He said only a united opposition could remove President Bola Tinubu and that splitting the opposition would guarantee failure.
“Obi will leave ADC. And Obi cannot be president. Let him and Kwankwaso go to anywhere,” Ayodele said in a separate message.
The cleric has also dismissed Obi’s chances in July 2025, stating, “Peter Obi cannot win. If Obi becomes the president, Nigeria is in trouble. Obi is a pretender”.
On Kwankwaso, Ayodele advised him in 2024 to halt his 2027 presidential aspiration. In May 2025, he predicted a tough political battle between Kwankwaso and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf ahead of 2027.
Ayodele has said the only opposition combination that could pose a serious challenge to Tinubu would be a Jonathan-Kwankwaso ticket, not Obi-Kwankwaso.
With both political analysis and the cleric’s prophecy pointing to the same conclusion, attention is shifting to whether Obi and Kwankwaso will pursue negotiations with other opposition leaders ahead of the ADC convention.
