Prof Usman Yusuf Petitions DSS, Police Over Alleged Threats by Kwankwaso
ABUJA — Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, Prof Usman Yusuf, has filed a complaint against Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso with the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force.
In the petition submitted to both security agencies, Yusuf accused the former Kano State governor of making threatening and inciting statements directed at him. He said the remarks could endanger his life and create insecurity.
Yusuf urged the DSS and police to investigate the matter and take necessary steps to protect his safety and maintain public order.
“As of now, Senator Kwankwaso has not responded publicly to the allegation,” the statement noted.
The former NHIA boss called on security agencies to act swiftly to prevent any escalation and ensure peace. He also prayed for an end to conflict among national leaders and for greater understanding in the country.
The development adds to ongoing political tensions within the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, and the broader opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, has not issued a statement on the matter at the time of filing this report.
The incident has sparked debate on whether politicians should resort to reporting each other to security agencies over public remarks, with observers noting the need to balance free speech, accountability, and personal safety.
