PDP Faction to Screen Goodluck Jonathan as Presidential Aspirant for 2027

ABUJA— A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, says it will begin screening former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential aspirant for the 2027 general elections.

The screening is scheduled to start nationwide on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

The faction’s National Executive Committee has set up a 14-member screening committee for the exercise. Members listed include former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi, PDP Board of Trustees member Chief Olabode George, and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu.

Other members are Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, Josephine Anenih, Dr. Abdul Bulama, Dr. Esther Uduehi, Tony Aziegbemi, Dr. Sunday Solarium, and Chief Anicho Okoro, who serves as Administrative Secretary.

The faction said Jonathan is its sole presidential aspirant. It also disclosed that it is processing 112 governorship aspirants, 198 senatorial contenders, 748 House of Representatives hopefuls, and 2,122 state House of Assembly aspirants across the country.

According to the group, the exercise is in line with the PDP’s guidelines and timetable for the 2027 elections. The faction is reportedly backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

Last week, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said Jonathan had re-registered with the party under a new digital registration exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
