“Pay Us Globally, We’ll Work Globally”: UK-Based Nigerian Pushes Back on Moniepoint CEO’s Talent Remark
A Nigerian professional based in the United Kingdom has gone viral after challenging Moniepoint CEO Tosin Eniolorunda over comments on the difficulty of finding Nigerian talent that meets international standards.
In a widely circulated video, the man said he supports the goal of building a globally competitive company but argued that attracting top-tier professionals requires more than high expectations, it demands competitive pay.
Directly addressing Eniolorunda, he used the UK labor market as a benchmark, noting that workers there earn around £13 per hour, roughly ₦20,000. That translates to about ₦160,000 daily and over ₦3 million monthly for a standard full-time role, he said.
“If Nigerian firms want world-class professionals, they must be ready to pay salaries in that range, or at least close to it,” he said. He suggested that monthly compensation of between ₦2 million and ₦2.5 million could draw skilled Nigerians abroad to return home or work remotely for local companies.
The man added that current salary structures may be the main reason top talent remains inaccessible, saying better remuneration could help close the gap.
His comments have fueled the debate sparked by Eniolorunda’s earlier statement. While some have backed the claim of a local talent shortage, others argue that improved salaries and working conditions are key to attracting and retaining high-level professionals in Nigeria’s tech sector.
