NEWS OF THE MOMENT: OPPOSITION LEADER WITHDRAWS FROM RACE

Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the race to return to the National Assembly under the platform of the African Democratic Congress.

Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives and one of the prominent opposition figures in northern Nigeria, was reportedly preparing to contest for a legislative seat ahead of the next electoral cycle before deciding to step aside from the race.

Although the former governor has yet to publicly provide detailed reasons for his withdrawal, political observers believe the decision may be connected to ongoing political realignments and consultations within opposition circles.

His withdrawal has already generated reactions among supporters and party stakeholders in Sokoto State, where he remains one of the most influential political figures. Analysts say the development could reshape political calculations within the opposition camp in the state and beyond.

Tambuwal has played key roles in Nigeria’s political landscape over the years, serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015 and later as governor of Sokoto State for two terms. He also contested in previous presidential primaries and has remained active in national political discussions.

Party officials are yet to announce whether another candidate will emerge to fill the vacuum created by his withdrawal from the race.
