NEWS OF THE MOMENT: ANOTHER TSUNAMI HITS THE APC
Kaduna North Lawmaker Bello El-Rufai Quits APC, Joins ADC with Two Colleagues
ABUJA, Nigeria— Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Banking Regulations, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The announcement was made on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday by the Speaker of the 10th House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas GCON, who read El-Rufai’s resignation letter during plenary.
In a statement following the defection, El-Rufai said he would now seek re-election on the ADC platform to continue representing the people of Kaduna North. “I am now a member of the ADC, and I will be seeking re-election to continue representing the good people of Kaduna North Federal Constituency on this platform,” he said.
Two Other Lawmakers Join ADC*
El-Rufai was joined in the move my Hon. Engr. Suleiman Richifa, representing Soba, and Hon. Umar Ajilo, representing Makarfi/Kudan, both of whom also defected from their previous parties to the ADC. The trio said they were building “a home for progressive, people-focused service.”
“This decision was not taken lightly,” El-Rufai stated. “As a proud son of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, I am guided by courage, conviction, and the unshakable belief that our people deserve the very best.”
Focus on Health Care Initiative
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to his constituents, pledging not to compromise on quality representation. He disclosed plans to soon inaugurate an ad hoc committee for a Primary Health Care initiative unveiled last week.
Under the program, Primary Health Care Centres will be equipped with medical supplies, beginning with 1,000 syringes per PHC and other essential items. Phase I will cover two centres: Unguwar Sarki Ward and Badarawa/Malali Ward.
Political Implications
The defections add to a growing wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC positioning itself as an alternative platform for opposition figures dissatisfied with the APC and PDP.
El-Rufai concluded his statement with a prayer for divine guidance and for Nigeria to be blessed with capable leadership.
