NDC Member Criticizes Kenneth Okonkwo Over Alignment with Atiku, Warns Against Attacks on Peter Obi

ABUJA, Nigeria— Okere Kingdom, a lawyer and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized former Labour Party spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo over his recent alignment with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing the move as a betrayal of the reform movement he once supported alongside Peter Obi.

Speaking in a video posted on Symfoni TV, Kingdom accused Atiku of representing the political order that Peter Obi and other reform advocates have sought to change.

“I wish him well in his new-found love, Atiku Abubakar,” Kingdom said. “Atiku Abubakar represents the face of corruption. Atiku Abubakar represents the old order, the old order Peter Obi is trying to change, the old order people like us have been protesting, have been going to court on public interest cases, advocating that Nigeria must be good.”

While extending what he called a superficial courtesy to Okonkwo, Kingdom said the decision marked a moral and political departure from Okonkwo’s earlier stance. “I wish Kenneth Okonkwo well, but I want to tell him that he's now a prodigal son,” he said.

Kingdom also issued a warning over Okonkwo’s continued criticism of Peter Obi. “The next time he goes on television to go and lash out at Mr. Peter Obi, the ancestors from the Southeast might not be very kind with him,” he cautioned.

Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, has in recent weeks voiced criticism of Obi and aligned with Atiku Abubakar’s political camp ahead of the 2027 elections.
