Miyetti Allah Leader Bello Bodejo Arrested in Jalingo After Taraba APC Rally
JALINGO, Taraba State— Security operatives arrested Bello Bodejo, an All Progressives Congress aspirant for Taraba Central Senatorial District and president of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore socio-cultural association, on Thursday night shortly after he addressed supporters in the state capital.
Bodejo was taken into custody after visiting a security office with political associates. The arrest followed a rally-like reception organised by supporters from the five local government areas in Taraba Central.
The aspirant arrived in Jalingo aboard a private aircraft at about 1:20 pm and was received at Danbaba Suntai Airport by thousands of supporters. The crowd escorted him to the APC state secretariat, where he addressed party loyalists and said he had obtained the party’s nomination form and would not withdraw from the 2027 race.
Speaking before his arrest, Bodejo said no individual or political arrangement would compel him to step down for another aspirant. He also said a consensus committee allegedly set up by Governor Agbu Kefas had not contacted him.
A close aide, identified as Umar, said the arrest occurred after Bodejo and his associates visited one of the security formations in Jalingo. He said the same personnel who escorted Bodejo from Abuja to Jalingo later detained him, and ordered other members of the entourage to leave. As of Thursday night, the aide said neither family nor associates had been told the reason for the arrest or where Bodejo was being held.
The incident has heightened political tension within the APC in Taraba as consultations ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.
Bodejo was detained by the Department of State Services in 2024 over allegations linked to the establishment of a vigilante outfit in Nasarawa State.
