Masari Defects from APC to ADC

KATSINA, Nigeria — Former Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, Bature Umar Masari, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress and defected to the African Democratic Congress, citing dissatisfaction with the party’s internal arrangements.

In a letter dated April 30, 2026, Masari said his decision followed “wide consultations and deep personal reflection” after he lost the APC ticket to contest the Malumfashi/Kafur Federal Constituency seat in Katsina State under a consensus arrangement.

Masari, a former House of Representatives aspirant, expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunities he had while in the party but said his political ideals, including good governance, inclusiveness, transparency and people-centred leadership, aligned more closely with the ADC.

He described the ADC as a “credible alternative” committed to restoring public trust and promoting justice and equity in governance.

“I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to public service and national development under the new platform,” he said in the letter.

The defection adds to shifting political alignments ahead of future elections in Katsina State, a key political stronghold in northern Nigeria.
