Malami Throws Hat in the Ring: Ex-AGF Joins Kebbi 2027 Race Under ADC
KEBBI, Nigeria— Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has declared his intention to contest the Kebbi State governorship in 2027 on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Malami made the announcement on Thursday during a meeting with the Kebbi State ADC Aspirants Forum in Birnin Kebbi. The gathering brought together party stakeholders, loyalists and supporters from across the state’s local government areas.
Receiving a rousing welcome, Malami said he would run for governor under the ADC, promising “a new direction anchored on justice, development and inclusive governance.” He added that he had consulted widely with party leaders and grassroots mobilisers to build a structure capable of challenging the ruling party in the state.
Supporters described the former AGF as a “tested political strategist” with the national reach to reposition Kebbi politically and economically. The meeting featured chants, endorsements and solidarity messages following his declaration.
Analysts say Malami’s entry could reshape the governorship contest in Kebbi, given his influence in northern political circles and his long tenure in national politics.
The declaration is one of the earliest high-profile moves ahead of the 2027 elections in the state, and is seen as a boost for the ADC’s prospects in Kebbi.
