Mahdi Shehu Calls on INEC Chairman to Publicly Release School Certificates
Speaking on PAPShow, Shehu said Nigerians have the right to scrutinize the academic and professional records of officials in sensitive public offices, especially those responsible for conducting elections.
“Public confidence in national institutions can only be strengthened when officials openly make their credentials available for verification,” he said.
Shehu argued that the INEC chairmanship is too critical to Nigeria’s democratic stability for questions about qualifications and public records to remain unanswered. He added that accountability standards should not be selective, noting that politicians and candidates routinely face scrutiny over their academic records during elections.
“Transparency from public office holders would help reduce suspicion, political tension, and allegations of bias that often emerge during election periods,” he stated.
The comments have drawn mixed reactions on social media. Supporters described the demand as part of democratic accountability, while critics said it could fuel controversy in an already polarized environment.
The PAPShow interview also covered opposition politics, internal divisions within coalitions, and the outlook for the 2027 presidential race. The platform said the full episode will be released on its YouTube channel in the coming days.
