LP Offers Alex Otti Free Nomination Forms for Re-election, Sets Presidential Form at ₦50m

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Labour Party (LP) has offered Abia State Governor Alex Otti free expression of interest and nomination forms for his second-term re-election bid, while fixing the cost of its presidential nomination form at ₦50 million ahead of the 2026/2027 election cycle.

In a statement issued on Sunday, National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa announced the party’s timetable and schedule of activities for its 2026 primary elections. The LP said the waiver for Governor Otti was in recognition of his performance in office and his role in strengthening the party’s profile in Abia State since winning the 2023 governorship election.

“The National Executive Committee approved the concession to Governor Otti as a mark of confidence and appreciation for his stewardship,” Asogwa stated. He added that the decision aligns with the party’s practice of rewarding elected officials who embody its ideals.

For the presidential race, the LP pegged the combined cost of expression of interest and nomination forms at ₦50 million. The party said the fees would help fund its electoral processes and party structure nationwide, while maintaining accessibility for credible aspirants.

According to the released timetable, the sale of forms for all elective positions will open in the coming weeks, followed by screening exercises, primaries, and the submission of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the electoral calendar.

The announcement comes as political parties begin early preparations for the 2027 general elections. Governor Otti has not yet publicly responded to the LP’s offer, but his administration has previously indicated an intention to seek a second term.

The LP gained significant traction in the South-East and parts of the country during the 2023 elections, and party officials say they aim to build on that momentum with an early and structured primary process.
