Kwankwaso Predicts 2027 Win for Tinubu, Cites Northern Development Initiatives
KANO, Nigeria — May 30, 2026— Dr. Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, Executive Director of Finance at the Hadejia–Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a second term in 2027, citing the Federal Government’s ongoing infrastructure and development projects across northern Nigeria.
Speaking in a statement issued on Saturday, Kwankwaso said the Tinubu administration’s implementation of projects under the Renewed Hope agenda demonstrates a strong commitment to economic transformation, infrastructure development, and regional integration across the North-West and North-East geopolitical zones.
According to him, the scale and visibility of ongoing projects have strengthened public confidence in the administration and could translate into significant electoral support for the President in the 2027 general election.
Key Projects Highlighted
Among the major projects Kwankwaso listed is the Kano–Kongolom Road dualisation, estimated at about ₦334 billion, which is expected to enhance transportation and commercial activity across Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states.
He also pointed to the reconstruction of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway, describing it as a strategic transport corridor being upgraded with reinforced concrete pavement and additional security measures to improve safety and efficiency.
Kwankwaso further referenced the proposed Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, a 1,068-kilometre economic corridor designed to connect northern and southern Nigeria through an integrated road and rail system aimed at boosting trade and investment.
Other projects cited include the Kano Eastern Bypass, expected to reduce industrial traffic congestion within Kano metropolis, and the Kano–Maradi Rail Line, intended to strengthen regional transport networks and facilitate trade between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
On energy infrastructure, Kwankwaso highlighted the 614-kilometre Ajaokuta–Abuja–Kaduna–Kano, AKK, Gas Pipeline project, noting that it is expected to support industrial growth, improve domestic gas distribution, and enhance electricity generation across northern Nigeria.
Environment, Agriculture, and Health
He also drew attention to environmental and agricultural initiatives, including the ₦47 billion Jakara–Gogau–Zungeru urban drainage and sewage project in Kano, as well as rehabilitation works on key water infrastructure such as Challawa Gorge Dam, Tiga Dam, and the Kano River irrigation scheme.
In healthcare, he commended ongoing upgrades at federal teaching hospitals and efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery through the IMPACT programme.
Kwankwaso additionally referenced the Energising Commercialisation Nigeria, ECoN, initiative launched in Kano by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, which seeks to transform research outputs into commercially viable products capable of creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
He also noted activities surrounding the newly established North-West Development Commission, including project inspections and preparations for the commission’s permanent headquarters in Kano.
According to Kwankwaso, the ongoing projects provide tangible evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to northern development and are likely to strengthen support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
His remarks come amid growing political discussions over the impact of government policies, infrastructure investments, and economic reforms as stakeholders begin positioning for what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 contest.
Political observers say the performance of major development projects and the administration’s ability to address economic challenges will remain key factors influencing voter sentiment ahead of the next general election.
