Hon. Joshua Obika Resigns from APC, Joins Nigeria Democratic Congress

Abuja, Nigeria — May 5, 2026

The member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a shift in his political priorities.

In a resignation letter dated May 5 and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Gwarinpa, Abuja, Obika announced his immediate departure from the ruling party. He stated that his decision followed “careful personal consideration,” noting that his political direction had diverged from that of the APC.

“This decision was not made lightly,” the lawmaker wrote, adding that he had come to the conclusion that his priorities had moved “away from the current direction of the party.”

Obika expressed appreciation to party members for their support during his time in the APC, thanking them for the opportunity to serve and collaborate.

Shortly after his resignation, indications emerged that the lawmaker has aligned with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). A membership card bearing his name and details confirms his registration with the party in the Federal Capital Territory, under Gwarinpa ward.

The development signals a notable political shift in the Federal Capital Territory, especially as realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While Obika has yet to publicly elaborate on his reasons for joining the NDC, political observers say the move could influence party dynamics within Abuja and beyond.
