Hayatu-Deen Meets Jonathan in Abuja.
ABUJA, Nigeria— African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen met with former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in Abuja on Friday to discuss the state of the nation and the outlook for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The closed-door meeting was described as a reunion between two men with a long history of collaboration in public service. When Jonathan served as Vice President, Hayatu-Deen was a member of the National Council on Privatization and chaired the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). He later served on the Presidential Advisory Committee during Jonathan’s tenure as Acting President and President.
According to a statement from the Mohammed Hayatu-Deen Media Office, the aspirant visited Jonathan to formally inform him of his decision to seek the presidency in 2027 on the platform of the ADC.
During the visit, Hayatu-Deen commended Jonathan for his statesman role across the African continent, where he continues to advocate for democracy and electoral integrity. Jonathan received him warmly and extended his best wishes for his presidential ambition.
The statement said Hayatu-Deen, with 40 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, would bring that background to bear on the presidency if elected. His priorities, it added, include job creation, organizational turnaround, ending insecurity, reducing the cost of living, and creating employment opportunities for Nigerians.
