Galadima Urges Atiku to Join NDC, Warns of Consequences for Opposition Ahead of 2027

ABUJA, Nigeria— Buba Galadima, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to align with the emerging National Democratic Coalition (NDC), warning that failure to do so could weaken the opposition’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.

Galadima, a longtime ally of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, said the fragmentation of opposition forces continues to benefit the ruling establishment. He argued that only a unified coalition involving key political leaders can effectively challenge the incumbent administration.

He specifically urged Atiku to work with other influential opposition figures, including former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, stating that their combined political capital could reshape the dynamics of the 2027 presidential race.

According to Galadima, personal ambitions and entrenched rivalries have repeatedly undermined collective efforts to unseat the ruling party. He warned that without consolidation under a single platform such as the NDC, the opposition risks repeating past patterns of division and reduced electoral strength.

The remarks come amid ongoing consultations among opposition leaders on forming a broad-based alliance capable of mobilizing nationwide support. Analysts say the success of such a coalition will depend on the willingness of its key actors to make concessions and prioritize national interest over individual aspirations.

Atiku has not publicly responded to Galadima’s statement. Insiders say discussions around coalition-building are ongoing, with options under consideration including mergers, strategic partnerships, and issue-based alliances.

Political observers note that the coming months will be critical in determining whether Nigeria’s opposition can overcome internal divisions and present a credible alternative to voters. Galadima’s comments reflect growing pressure on leading opposition figures to unify or risk another electoral setback.
