GAIN FOR ADC AS GUBER ASPIRANT DUMPS APC

 

IBADAN, Oyo State — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recorded a major political gain in Oyo State following the defection of former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Azeez Adeduntan, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).  

Adeduntan, a renowned cardiovascular surgeon and former APC governorship aspirant, formally resigned from the ruling party and, less than 24 hours later, obtained the ADC governorship expression of interest and nomination forms, signaling his intention to contest for the Agodi Government House on the ADC platform.  

The former commissioner described the move as the start of a new political journey aimed at providing purposeful leadership and renewed hope for the people of Oyo State.  

According to him, his exit from the APC has already created noticeable tension within the party’s ranks.  

“Since my exit, the political atmosphere within the APC has been marked by visible unease as stakeholders grapple with the weight of my departure,” Adeduntan stated.  

Reflecting on his time in public office, he highlighted his achievements in the health sector, noting that he facilitated multi-million-dollar medical support from international partners and championed initiatives that expanded healthcare access across Oyo State.  

“My transition from saving lives in the operating theatre to shaping policies in public office reflects a lifelong commitment to humanity and progress,” he said.  

“As a proud son of Ibadan, my legacy in Oyo State remains indelible.”  

Adeduntan further described his governorship ambition under the ADC as a movement for change and development.  

“This represents a clarion call for purposeful leadership, a reawakening of hope, and a bold vision for a greater Oyo State,” he declared.  

“Experience is ready, capacity is proven, and the moment has come. Oyo is watching. The road has opened, and Adeduntan has begun the march.”  

Political observers say the ADC has continued to gain momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several aspirants across different states aligning with the party for governorship and legislative contests.
