DSS Testimony Cited in El-Rufai Case Sparks Public Debate Over Allegations Against Government Officials

ABUJA— A testimony given by a Department of State Services witness in a court case involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has generated public discussion over several allegations made against government officials.

According to court proceedings referenced in public statements, the DSS witness stated that El-Rufai had listened to conversations involving the National Security Adviser. The witness also said El-Rufai’s statements in an Arise TV interview aligned with what NSA Nuhu Ribadu reportedly told the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and presented the interview as evidence of El-Rufai’s credibility.

When asked if El-Rufai could have been boasting during the television appearance, the witness described him as “a person of integrity” and said he believed El-Rufai meant what he said during the broadcast.

Following the testimony, statements circulating online have posed questions about the claims raised by El-Rufai, including allegations that:

- The NSA directs the ICPC on who to investigate.

- Thalium sulphate was illegally imported into Nigeria.

- The federal government is paying billions of naira to bandits as ransom.

- ₦100 billion is withdrawn monthly from the federation account by President Bola Tinubu.

- The government is illegally intercepting citizens’ phone calls.

None of the allegations have been independently verified, and no official response has been issued by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the ICPC, the DSS, or the Presidency regarding the specific claims as of press time.

The case remains before the court. El-Rufai has previously denied wrongdoing in public statements.

The development has prompted renewed calls on social media for transparency and accountability from government institutions.
