BREAKING: Pantami Withdraws from APC Gombe Governorship Primary

GOMBE— Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Gombe State scheduled for 21 May 2026, citing violations of the Electoral Act 2026 and the party’s guidelines.

In a statement issued Tuesday by the Pantamiyya Movement and signed by Barrister Ibrahim M. Attahir, Pantami said he was pulling out “under protest” after repeated requests for information on the primary process went unanswered.

The statement said Pantami was the only APC governorship aspirant to send a representative to the Peace Accord meeting organised by the Nigeria Police Force, Gombe State Command, on 14 May 2026, and that his representative was the only one who signed the accord.

It alleged that letters sent by Pantami’s solicitors to party organs requesting details on the direct primaries received no reply or acknowledgment. The statement also claimed that during the National Assembly direct primaries held on 16 and 18 May 2026, aspirants were not provided with details on venues, procedures, or accreditation for agents and observers, but results were still announced.

Pantami thanked supporters, particularly youth and women, and said contributions for his expression of interest and nomination forms ranged from ₦5,000 to ₦4 million, with receipts shared publicly online. He urged supporters to remain calm and law-abiding.

The statement said the Pantamiyya Movement would communicate its next steps in due course. The APC in Gombe State had not issued a public response as of press time.
