Breaking news: More Strength to Atiku as Another Southern Candidate Emerges from Major Opposition Party

Abure-Led Labour Party Picks Prince Kennedy Ahanotu as 2027 Presidential Candidate

ABUJA, NIGERIA — May 30, 2026: The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has officially announced its National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The announcement was made on Saturday during the faction’s presidential, governorship, and House of Representatives primaries held in Abuja.

The party’s Deputy National Chairman, Ayo Olorunfemi, who represented factional National Chairman Julius Abure, formally declared Ahanotu as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 presidential race.

Speaking after his emergence, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work toward strengthening the Labour Party and advancing national development.

“With a full sense of responsibility and unwavering commitment to our nation, I proudly accept the nomination of our great party, the Labour Party, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election,” Ahanotu stated.

The newly nominated candidate described his emergence as both an honour and a significant responsibility, promising to collaborate with party leaders and stakeholders across the country to deepen internal democracy and reposition the party ahead of the next general elections.

Ahanotu also emphasized the need for reconciliation within the Labour Party, urging members to set aside their differences and unite behind a common vision.

“Our strength lies not in our differences but in our shared commitment to building a stronger party and a better Nigeria,” he said.

As part of efforts to foster unity, Ahanotu disclosed plans to engage key stakeholders across the party, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, with the aim of healing divisions and consolidating the party’s structure nationwide.

He further stressed that the Labour Party must continue to project itself as a truly national political platform rather than one identified with any particular region of the country.

Political analysts say Ahanotu’s emergence adds another dimension to the ongoing leadership and structural disputes within the Labour Party, as competing factions continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development is expected to intensify discussions surrounding the future direction of the Labour Party and its readiness to challenge other major political parties for Nigeria’s highest office.

MATTERS ARISING 6060 will continue to monitor developments within the Labour Party and provide updates as events unfold.
