Bauchi Gov Bala Mohammed Defects to APM, Picks Senate Nomination Form
ABUJA, Nigeria— Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has formally defected to the Allied People’s Movement (APM), confirming the move on Thursday at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.
Mohammed attended the NEC meeting presided over by APM National Chairman Yusuf Mamman Dantalle and said Nigeria’s political space is “increasingly challenged by undemocratic practices and political intimidation.” He said the APM is the platform that “best aligns with our collective vision” after wide consultations.
The governor stated that the party shares his values of “good governance, internal democracy, justice, inclusiveness, and respect for the rule of law.” He described the defection as “driven by conviction” to build a stronger democratic culture.
Mohammed disclosed that his switch includes “a significant number” of former PDP office holders in Bauchi, including National Assembly members, state lawmakers, local government chairmen, commissioners, ward executives, and grassroots supporters.
At the meeting, he picked up his nomination form to contest the Bauchi South Senatorial seat under APM ahead of the forthcoming elections. He pledged to commit “resources, experience, and political support” to grow the party at all levels.
