Atiku Outlines Economic and Security Blueprint After ADC Screening for 2027 Race
ABUJA — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar appeared before the Presidential Screening Panel of the African Democratic Congress in Abuja on Wednesday as part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The closed-door screening formed part of ADC’s nomination and verification process ahead of the presidential primaries.
Speaking to journalists afterward, Atiku described the exercise as “smooth and successful.”
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said he used the opportunity to present a comprehensive economic rescue plan and a national security reform agenda aimed at tackling Nigeria’s mounting economic and security challenges.
“My vision for Nigeria goes beyond partisan politics,” he said. “It is focused on providing practical solutions to the country’s current difficulties.”
He described the initiative as “a practical and urgent pathway for rescuing Nigeria from the grip of economic stagnation, mass unemployment, institutional drift, and the horrifying insecurity that has left innocent citizens vulnerable to massacres, kidnappings, and terror attacks.”
Atiku warned against Nigeria’s current trajectory of economic hardship and policy uncertainty, which he said was weakening businesses and eroding investor confidence. He noted that many Nigerians were struggling under worsening economic conditions while unstable policies made it difficult for businesses to thrive.
On the economy, he said his blueprint would prioritize job creation, private sector growth, fiscal discipline, macroeconomic stability, and policies to restore investor confidence and drive sustainable development.
On security, Atiku expressed concern over the rising wave of violence nationwide. He proposed a framework built on intelligence-led operations, improved coordination among security agencies, decentralized security structures, and stronger political will to tackle criminality.
“At this defining moment in our national life, Nigeria does not need experiments. It needs tested leadership, clarity of vision, and the courage to make difficult but necessary decisions in the national interest,” he stated.
Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to building a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria where citizens can live peacefully and pursue opportunities with dignity.
