Aregbesola’s litmus test in Osun
OSOGBO, Osun State— The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Omoluabi group are holding a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo under the leadership of former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, a gathering that participants say signals shifting political alignments in the South West ahead of the 2027 elections.
For years, Aregbesola has been regarded as one of the most organized grassroots political figures in Osun and the wider progressive movement. Supporters say his structure, discipline, ideological base, and loyal political network remain significant factors in South West politics.
According to those at the meeting, the ADC needs more than national visibility to compete effectively in 2027. They argue the party requires structure, local credibility, experienced organizers, and leaders capable of mobilizing from wards to polling units—capabilities they say the Omoluabi movement brings.
The meeting is taking place as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) contends with internal distrust and public dissatisfaction over economic hardship, inflation, insecurity, and governance concerns. ADC stakeholders say the party is gradually becoming a platform where political forces can reorganize and prepare for the next electoral cycle.
“Osogbo today is not just hosting a meeting. It is witnessing the early formation of a stronger alternative in the South-West,” one participant said.
If properly managed, the ADC/Omoluabi alliance could become one of the most important political developments in Osun ahead of 2027, according to organizers.
The message from the gathering, participants stated, is that ADC is building its presence in the region, the South West political space is opening to new alignments, and the movement is moving beyond theoretical discussions.
