Aregbesola Breaks Silence on Return to APC Rumors
ILESA, Osun State— African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he has “no reason to join the party again.”
Aregbesola made the clarification on Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting with ADC members and supporters in Ilesa. He described the speculation about his return to the APC as unfounded and said he had moved on from the party he once helped to build.
“I am not planning a return to the APC. Such information is just a figment of their imagination. I have no reason to join the party again,” he said. “The truth is that the current handlers have derailed from the vision and mission on which we built the party.”
The former Osun State governor and ex-Minister of Interior used the meeting to reaffirm his commitment to the ADC and urged members to remain united despite political pressure. He said the ruling party no longer reflected the ideals on which it was founded.
Aregbesola also criticized the federal government’s performance, saying the living conditions of many Nigerians had deteriorated in recent years. He argued that widespread economic hardship had made it necessary for citizens to seek a credible political alternative.
“The condition of the country has made it necessary for citizens to seek a more reliable political alternative capable of addressing their concerns,” he said.
He described the ADC as a credible platform capable of providing better leadership and solutions to Nigeria’s challenges if given the opportunity.
“I want to appreciate you all. Despite the attacks, oppression, and intimidation by those who think they can continue to intimidate us, you have remained resolute, firm, and solidly behind our cause,” he told party faithful.
The ADC has been positioning itself as an alternative platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several former APC and PDP figures aligning with the party in recent months.
