Ardo Questions NDC Registration Process, Alleges Procedural Irregularities
ABUJA — Political analyst Dr. Umar Ardo has raised concerns over the registration of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) as a political party, alleging that the process did not follow the requirements set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ardo said no political association can be registered as a political party without completing INEC’s Form EC15A and paying the mandatory N2 million administrative fee to obtain an access code for the commission’s registration portal. He explained that the process requires associations to upload documents including the party name, acronym, logo, constitution, manifesto, details of national executive members, office address, payment receipt, bank account details, and a sworn affidavit.
According to Ardo, the NDC did not pay the fee, did not obtain an access code, and did not fill or upload Form EC15A or any of the required documents on INEC’s portal. He said he obtained the certified true copies of all documents and processes the NDC submitted to the Federal High Court in Lokoja and stated that none of the fundamental documents were exhibited.
He further alleged that the NDC obtained its judgment on 3 December 2025, before INEC’s verification exercise for political associations, which took place on 8 and 10 December. Ardo said the registration process formally ended on 18 December, but the NDC’s judgment was made public only on 5 February 2026, when INEC announced the party’s registration by court order.
Ardo described the judgment as misleading the court and called it a “highly perverse” decision. He compared the situation to a candidate who did not complete INEC’s nomination forms but was declared a winner by a tribunal.
He urged Nigerians to scrutinize the registration, stating that the circumstances raise questions about the credibility of the process and the type of governance the party would provide.
The NDC was registered by INEC in February 2026 following a court order. INEC has not publicly responded to Ardo’s claims.
