YOUTH PARTY (JAM'IYYAR MATASA)OPENS DOORS: A CLARION CALL TO NIGERIAN YOUTHS TO TAKE BACK POLITICAL POWER

The Youth Party has issued a strong appeal to Nigerian youths nationwide to join what it described as “their own political platform,” positioning itself as a movement designed to protect youth interests, eliminate godfatherism, and make political participation more accessible through affordable nomination fees.

In a statement ahead of its congresses and 2027 primary elections, the party said it is building a structure where young people are not just participants, but real decision-makers in shaping leadership from the ward level to the national stage.

It described the upcoming congresses and primaries as a “historic opportunity” for young Nigerians to step forward, contest for office, and influence the direction of governance without the traditional barriers that have long defined party politics in the country.

‘A party for the youth, by the youth’

The party emphasised that its structure is designed to reflect inclusion, accountability, and internal democracy, insisting that it is committed to removing entrenched political godfatherism and creating space for first-time and emerging politicians.

It said nomination forms have been deliberately priced to encourage participation, particularly for young aspirants, women, and persons with disabilities, who will also benefit from a 50 percent discount.

Congress and convention timetable

Ward congresses are scheduled for 16 May 2026, followed by local government congresses on 18 May, state congresses on 20 May, and a national convention on 23 May 2026.

The party said the process will allow members to vote, contest, and participate fully in leadership selection across all levels.

Primaries for 2027 elections

The Youth Party also confirmed its timetable for primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections. Sale of nomination forms runs from 2 March to 20 May 2026, with screening set for 25 May and primaries scheduled for 29 May 2026.

It set nomination fees at ₦35 million for presidential aspirants, ₦14 million for governorship, ₦2.5 million for Senate, ₦1.5 million for House of Representatives, and ₦250,000 for State Assembly seats.

Call to mobilisation

The party urged young Nigerians to mobilise at least 25 members per ward to join and participate in the congress process, stressing that active involvement is key to reshaping the country’s political future.

“All payments for nomination forms are to be made into the party’s accredited Zenith Bank accounts, with proof forwarded for confirmation,” the statement added.

Reiterating its message, the party declared that the Youth Party is “where young Nigerians belong,” urging them to take ownership of their political future by joining a platform it says is built to protect and promote their interests.
