Nigerian Diaspora Organisation (NIDOS) Seychelles Revitalizes Community Bonds with Heartwarming Visit to Elderly Home
ANSE BOILEAU, SEYCHELLES — In a moving demonstration of cultural pride and community spirit, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDOS), Seychelles chapter brought joy to the residents of the Anse Boileau Home for the Elderly during a special Easter visit last Tuesday. This event marks the beginning of a renewed commitment by the Nigerian community to foster stronger ties with the Seychellois people.
Led by NIDOS Chairman, Mr. Simon Pusam, the delegation turned the home into a lively space of celebration. The afternoon featured music, snacks, and dancing, giving the ten residents, six women and four men, a memorable break from their daily routines.
Visiting and caring for the elderly is a duty deeply rooted in our cultural values, said Mr. Pusam, this visit is just the starting point. We intend to work closely with the home’s management to address ongoing needs and expand this initiative to other elderly homes across Seychelles.
Mr. Pusam, who has lived in Seychelles for 19 years, emphasized that NIDOS is undergoing a revitalization aimed at redeeming the name of Nigeria and showcasing the positive contributions of law-abiding Nigerians. He highlighted the active roles Nigerians play in Seychelles’ key sectors, including:
-Healthcare
- Education
- Security
- Business and Development
The administrator of the Anse Boileau Home for the Elderly, Mr. Humoud Ali, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the visit, describing it as a meaningful gesture of goodwill. He noted that the facility, operational since 1994 and currently at full capacity, benefits greatly from such civic engagement. He encouraged other organizations to emulate NIDOS’ example.
Resident Ginette Boniface, who has lived at the home for four years, shared her joy: "I am very happy with the activities and thank God for the visitors who brightened our day. I wasn’t planning to come out today, but I’m so glad I stayed to enjoy the programme.
The visit concluded with a group photo featuring NIDOS members, staff, and residents; a symbol of the unity and cooperation between the Nigerian diaspora and the local Seychellois community.
