A religious scholar, Sheikh Husaini Yusuf Mabera of the Center of Islamic Propagation and Comparative Religious Education, North Western Zone, has written an open letter to former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, urging him to consider embracing Islam.

In the letter, CLICK TO READ THE FULL LETTER Mabera said he was motivated by a recent interview in which Obasanjo reportedly reflected on mortality and the realities of aging. He described the former president’s stage in life as a critical moment that calls for spiritual reflection and religious commitment.

The cleric outlined several theological arguments in support of Islam, presenting it as the “only divinely accepted religion” and emphasizing belief in one God, prophets, scriptures, angels, and the hereafter as core tenets. He also highlighted the five pillars of Islam, including faith, prayer, charity, fasting during Ramadan, and pilgrimage.

Mabera referenced both Islamic teachings and Biblical passages to support his claims, arguing that prophets such as Abraham, Moses, and Jesus preached monotheism consistent with Islamic doctrine. He further contended that Islam recognizes Jesus as a prophet, not as divine, and stressed the importance of total submission to God.

The letter concluded with a direct invitation to Obasanjo and his family to embrace Islam, stating that doing so would secure spiritual fulfillment and eternal reward.

As of the time of this report, the former president has not publicly responded to the letter.
