The Federal Government has unveiled sweeping reforms aimed at transforming Nigeria’s education sector, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence, digital learning, technical skills, and youth job creation.

The announcement was made during the Renewed Hope Conversations, University of Abuja Edition, where the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, engaged students, academics, and stakeholders on plans to build a future-ready education system aligned with global standards.

Speaking at the event, the minister said the Federal Government is moving away from the traditional theory-based model of learning and replacing it with an education system driven by skills, innovation, and technology.

According to him, key areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, and digital technologies are now being integrated into academic curricula across institutions, while entrepreneurship programmes are being expanded to encourage self-reliance and job creation among Nigerian youths.

In a major boost for students, the government also disclosed that institutions are receiving improved digital infrastructure, including mini-grid electricity, free internet access, learning management systems, and a nationwide fibre rollout to support modern teaching and learning.

The minister further revealed that the ongoing expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has already reached more than 160,000 beneficiaries, with demand continuing to rise across the country.

Other major initiatives announced include the Student Venture Capital Grant and plans for a National Research and Development Fund, both designed to support innovation, research commercialisation, and startup growth among students and young entrepreneurs.
