ADC Convention Under Threat as Party Alleges “Creeping Tyranny”
ABUJA — Tensions are mounting ahead of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention scheduled for tomorrow, as party leaders allege a deliberate attempt by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration to block the event.
In a strongly worded statement, party spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi revealed that the owner of Rainbow Event Centre, the chosen venue for the convention, has allegedly been threatened with the revocation of his business license if he allows the event to proceed.
According to the party, the venue owner reported receiving direct pressure from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The ADC claims that despite fulfilling all financial obligations and signing a formal contract, authorities are using state power to intimidate the private business owner into canceling the booking.
Despite the alleged threats, the ADC leadership says it remains resolute. Abdullahi described the move as an act of “creeping tyranny” and criticized the minister’s alleged involvement as “petty.”
“We will hold our convention tomorrow as planned at the Rainbow Event Centre. We will not bow to this creeping tyranny… ADC is rising, Nigeria is rising,” he said.
The party maintains that it has a legally binding agreement with the facility, raising the prospect of a standoff between contractual obligations and alleged administrative pressure.
The development signals a growing strain between the FCT administration and opposition political parties operating within the capital.
As of the time of this report, neither the FCT Minister’s office nor the FCDA has issued an official response. The ADC, however, insists the convention will proceed as scheduled, setting the stage for a potential confrontation in Abuja.
