“Peter Obi Left Labour Party With ₦12bn, $15m” – Factional Spokesman Arabambi Alleges
Abuja – 5 June 2026— The factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has accused former presidential candidate Peter Obi of leaving the party with large sums of money belonging to the party.
Arabambi made the allegation during an interview with Nevon HQ, which was reported by Very Nigerian on Thursday.
“Party Funds Taken Away”
According to Arabambi, the Labour Party had about ₦12 billion in one of its accounts and another $15 million in a separate dollar account before Obi exited the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
He alleged that Obi left the party with the funds, though he did not provide documents or evidence to support the claim during the interview.
The allegation comes amid the lingering leadership crisis in the Labour Party, with two factions laying claim to the party’s structure and leadership.
Background on Obi’s Exit
Peter Obi resigned his membership of the Labour Party in 2023 and later contested the presidential election on the platform of the party before moving to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition in 2025. He has consistently denied allegations of financial impropriety linked to his time with the Labour Party.
As of press time, Peter Obi or his representatives had not responded to Arabambi’s latest allegation.
The Labour Party has been embroiled in internal disputes since the 2023 elections, with factions led by Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa both claiming legitimacy. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has yet to recognize either faction definitively.
Efforts to reach the Obi/Datti Media Office for comment were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
