Showunmi: 2027 Presidency Will Be a Two-Horse Race Between Tinubu and Atiku
ABUJA, Nigeria — The 2027 presidential election is gradually shaping into a contest between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, according to Segun Showunmi, convener of the Alternative Movement.
Speaking on a political programme aired by News Central TV, Showunmi argued that both Tinubu and Atiku have shown clearer political direction and stronger strategic positioning ahead of the next general election.
He said the current political landscape points to the two politicians remaining dominant forces in Nigeria’s evolving power contest, especially amid ongoing defections, coalition talks, and realignments across major opposition blocs.
“In terms of who can lead the country, it is between Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Waziri Atiku Abubakar,” Showunmi stated during the interview.
He added that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has yet to demonstrate the same level of political clarity and direction being projected by Tinubu and Atiku ahead of 2027.
Showunmi’s comments have sparked reactions on social media, with supporters of the three political figures debating the future direction of Nigeria’s opposition politics and the likely shape of the 2027 presidential contest.
